Beetroot Nutrition Facts Benefits and Side Effects For Health:

What is the use?

Beets have a lot of vitamins, including iodine and iron. Iodine ensures the full functioning of the thyroid gland, and iron helps prevent anemia. In addition, beets are rich in coarse fiber, which helps to improve the functioning of the digestive system and prevent constipation. Pectin, which is also found in a rather large amount in beets, removes toxins from the body. There are a lot of group B vitamins in this root crop, including folic acid, as well as magnesium and potassium, which have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the nervous system. It is found in beets and calcium, but it is poorly absorbed in the body.

How to Choose?

Choose dark, small and veined root crops with intact skin. They are the most delicious. Green leaves on top are a sign of freshness. By cooking, cut the root crop in half and soak for half an hour in cold water to rid the beets of excess nitrates. It is not recommended to peel root vegetables from the peel before heat treatment. Firstly, after heat treatment, the skin is easier to remove, and secondly, more nutrients are saved in this way.

How Much to Add?

Due to the fact that beets can cause an allergic reaction and have a laxative effect on the intestines, it is administered to children no earlier than 8 months, and if the baby is prone to allergies - after a year. First, offer the root vegetable to the baby in the form of an additive to vegetable and meat puree. The initial serving is half a teaspoon. If everything goes smoothly, bring the portion to 25 g per month. Beets should be given no more than 2 times a week. After a year, a single serving of beets is 50 g. With constipation, you can give your baby beet juice on an empty stomach: 3-5 drops per 50 ml of hot water. The diluted juice must be cooled.
